A lot of life but little chess
I know, I know kinda late for "The Queen's Gambit" review, but what can I say? I'm not one to go with trends when they are..well...trending. I don't know much about chess but apparently neither the creators. I'm not saying this as a bad thing this was a show clearly made for the general public. They don't teach chess to the audience so we (common mortals who don't know the game) are just happy ignorant buffoons. Some people got mad cause netflix made a Bobby Fisher inspired show instead of his actual bio...but I kinda get it they had to sell it to people which they did so mission accomplished I guess, besides the novel was already a thing so chill. (And most of the comments like this are truly just because the main character is a women and that kinda tells why this type show is needed out there)
Special shout out for the awesome depiction of the 50's and 60's they hit all the nails on that part. The writing is really good her character is a bit like Page from Young Sheldon which I also love, always nice to have a genius with trauma. Favourite character goes to Jolene tho, I have a thing for good hearted potty mouths.
Her love life is the two babes one gall classic (actually three) but we ignore that cause both characters are really nice and they don't make any cheassy confrontations between the two so it passes the vibe check. What can I say more about this ahhhhhhh there's some nice chess asmr through it. Overall a solid show deserved the public reception it had. If you haven't watched it go and do it.
